Textbook Access Program (CTAP) provides access to affordable course materials

Course Material Adoptions

Submitting adoption information on time is crucial to contributing to course materials affordability for our students. The earlier the adoptions are received, the more time YOUR UH Campus Store will have to perform in-depth sourcing for inventory.

For our undergraduate students, the Cougar Textbook Access Program (CTAP) aims to provide access to required course materials on or before the first day of class. On-time adoptions ensure that we can deliver on that goal and have students prepared for learning on day one!

Course Material Adoption Deadlines

Course material adoption deadlines for each academic term are as follows:

Summer Adoptions:  March 15
Fall Adoptions:  April 15
Spring Adoptions:     October 15

Course Material Adoptions — Frequently Asked Questions

I use the same materials each term. Why do I have to submit adoptions each term?

To ensure the correct materials are made available for students, it is vital that materials are submitted each term as we do not want to make assumptions. Materials can change editions or you may select to change materials.

What if I was assigned a class that a previous professor was assigned and there are materials adopted that I do not wish to use?
Please log in to the portal and request that the adoption be deleted or email 2160txt@follett.com for us to remove the adoption from the system. You can then submit the adoption for your requested materials.

The adoption for my course shows a ‘required’ item and a ‘recommended’ item, but I require students to use it. Why is there a ‘recommended’ item?
This is a part of the CTAP process. The materials that are being provided to students will be listed as required, so it will provision to the students as part of CTAP. The item that is listed as ‘recommended’ is the same material, but the option for students who opt out of CTAP, so that they can purchase materials outside of CTAP if needed.

I am confused by the ISBNs. Why do I see ISBNs that I did not submit?
Sometimes the materials being provided to students as part of CTAP have different ISBNs, based on how publishers have their materials set up. The ISBN that you are used to is the national ISBN, meaning materials that students purchase, while some publishers have a different Access ISBN for our CTAP program. If you have questions about the ISBNs you are seeing, your publisher reps or Course Materials Market Manager can assist.

I keep hearing the word 'Courseware.' What does that mean?
Courseware is the technical term for your online components with publishers. You may know them as Connect (McGraw Hill), MindTap (Cengage), MyLab (Pearson) and Achieve (MPS) are just a few. Please note that these materials have a different ISBN than the textbook, and if you are using these courseware items, it is vital that you supply us with the ISBN for the courseware or send us an email to assist in getting the correct ISBN. Otherwise, your students may receive the incorrect materials.

I am trying to adopt my course materials, but the portal is saying it is locked. Why?
The adoption portal opens for the full academic year sometime in late February/March as the schedule for the upcoming academic year is released. However, the portals close to adoptions shortly before provisioning begins to go out to undergraduate students as part of CTAP. Close dates are not constant but typically follow this schedule: Fall closes sometime in July, Spring closes around the Thanksgiving holiday, and Summer closes towards the end of April. After the portal closes, you can still submit adoption details to 2160txt@follett.com.

I have questions about adoptions. Who do I reach out to?
We are more than happy to assist. Please reach out to 2160txt@follett.com with any questions or adoption concerns you may have.
