Love Your Body Day (Week!)

Tired of media messages and advertising that tells you that you are too short, too fat, too curvy, too flat chested, and too not alright?  Join us and learn to love your body!  Write what you love about your body on our Graffiti Wall, get a Love Your Body Day poster, and watch movies that critique media portrayals of women.  Our bodies and all bodies are beautiful! Movies shown Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 11:30am, writing on the wall all week, and loving your body-- all the days of your life!

Staff

Photo of UH Staff member Karen Zicterman

Karen Zicterman came to the University of Houston in 1992. She is a graduate of Angelo State University where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance and a minor in Real Estate.

While in high school and college, Karen worked for the City of San Angelo where she liked working in financial administration for several departments. There is where her passion for business bloomed. Then in 1992 when her husband relocated to Houston to pursue his terminal degree, Karen applied at UH.

Karen says that everything just fell into place with her job. In 1992, she was hired by UH and she worked in several different departments before joining Blaffer Gallery, The Art Museum of the University of Houston. In 1997, Karen became the Administrator for the museum. Needless to say, her job is very colorful in many different aspects.  Karen is very collegial and very supportive of the museum staff and demonstrates this by genuinely being concerned with many staff issues.

When asked about something that most people do not know about her, she stated: “I was born in Turkey.  My father is retired military and my family and I were fortunate to have traveled to Italy and Germany with him.”

As to words of encouragement that she would give to other women, Karen wrote: “As a working mother it has been extremely challenging to manage and juggle everything that is expected of us, but I always remain positive and surround myself with people that are optimistic and encouraging.  I would encourage other women to never underestimate their strength and capabilities.”

Karen, we salute you for you have and continue to live up to your words of encouragement to other women.
