Transfer Students

Transfer students at UH are defined as individuals transferring to UH with 15 or more semester credit hours earned from a regionally accredited college or university.

Transfer students applying to UH cannot select Nursing or Pre-Nursing as their major on the UH transfer application because the Gessner College of Nursing does not accept transfer students. Transfer students interested in the Traditional BSN Track need to select a major listed on the application. Once students are admitted to UH, they can submit the Pre-Nursing Change of Major Request for Transfer Students form.

Freshman students are defined as individuals that have 0–14 semester credit hours earned from a regionally accredited college or university. If you fall under this category, please apply to UH as a Freshman.

Freshman students must meet College of Nursing admission criteria to be admitted to UH as Pre-Nursing.

International Transfer Student

Applicants who earned 15 or more college or university credits from an institution outside of the US will apply to UH as an International Transfer student.

All applicants will need to meet English Language Requirements to be admitted.

International Transfer Students must meet the same Traditional BSN application requirements as domestic students.

If you have questions about applying to UH as an International Transfer student, please contact an International Recruitment Specialist.

Important Information

Transfer credit is awarded for transferable courses that are completed with a grade of C- or better. Nursing programs are competitive, so we advise all applicants to earn a B or higher in all coursework, including transferred coursework. If a C+ or lower is earned in a course that is being used for the Traditional BSN academic degree plan, we advise transfer students to consult with a Pre-Nursing advisor about retaking the course.

Academic advisors in the Gessner College of Nursing will NOT evaluate coursework for applicants PRIOR to admission into UH. Evaluation of transfer coursework by an academic advisor will be done after:

  • an applicant has been accepted to UH and
  • ALL transfer coursework has been evaluated by UH Admissions.

If you have questions about the Traditional BSN Track, please contact the UH Andy and Barbara Gessner College of Nursing at nursing@uh.edu.
