Jesse Rainbow has taught in the Honors College since 2012. He specializes in the Hebrew Bible and the ancient Near East, and has written on biblical literature and its interpretation in the ancient world. His work has appeared in Journal of Biblical Literature, Harvard Theological Review, Journal for the Study of the New Testament, Journal for the Study of Judaism, Relegere: Studies in Religion and Reception, Review of Biblical Literature, and Religion, as well as in several edited volumes. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University’s Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations and was a graduate fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. He is the winner of Harvard University’s Bowdoin Prize and the University of Houston’s Teaching Excellence Award.

Rainbow teaches in the Human Situation course and is the faculty leader of the Omega team. He regularly offers upper-level courses on the history and literature of ancient civilizations in conjunction with the university’s Religious Studies Program, as well as with the Honors College’s Medicine & Society and Phronesis minors. He has led a number of student trips to the Middle East and North Africa.
