Since 2020, University Information Technology (UIT) has chartered 36 large-scale projects that aim to improve campus safety and security. The projects include implementing security cameras and additional code blue phones across all parking lots, garages, and buildings, upgrading security cameras, upgrading the video management system, and implementing an emergency call button on the UH Go app, to name a few.
The Office of Emergency Management hosted a Skywarn Storm Spotter Training in February, where attendees learned the basics of thunderstorm development, the fundamentals of a storm structure, how to identify potential severe weather features, and how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service.
The 2nd annual Lab Safety Awareness Week, hosted by the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) department in collaboration with the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA), occurred February 12-16, 2024. This significant event spanned various campus locations, including the Cullen College of Engineering, Health & Biomedical Science Building 2, the Science & Engineering Research Center, and, for the first time, the UH Sugar Land Campus.
For the past six years, the University of Houston’s Dining Services has hosted monthly farmer’s market on the campus grounds. The farmer’s market brings different types of vendors to campus, from artisanal soaps, vintage clothing, and fresh desserts to name a few.
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training Program identifies those courses critical to train personnel capable of implementing all functions of emergency management. This program establishes the NIMS core curriculum to ensure it adequately trains emergency and incident response personnel to all concepts and principles of each NIMS component.
For the past year, the Occupational Health Services department has offered free American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR/AED Training to interested employees.
Finals Week for the fall semester fell on the first week of December, and to help University of Houston students fuel up for their test-heavy week, Administration and Finance’s Office of Administration and University Libraries hosted Finals Mania in the M.D. Anderson Library.
