Minor in AAS

A minor in Asian American Studies requires a minimum of 15 semester hours: six hours Cultural Studies required courses plus a minimum of nine hours Cultural Studies elective and/or Social Studies elective courses.  Nine of the 15 hours must be in residence, six (6) of which must be advanced.  Students must earn a 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average on courses attempted in the AAS minor at the University of Houston

All students are required to take the following two courses in this minor:

Cultural Sudies (Required)

  • CUST 2300 - Introduction to Asian American Studies
  • CUST 4300 - Asian American Cultures and Communities

In addition, students must successfully complete nine (9) semester hours to be taken from the Cultural Studies and/or Human and Social Sciences, from which at least 6 semester hours must be taken at the upper level 3000-4000. Students may choose from the following:

On occasion, new courses including selected topics will be added to this list as they are developed. Other appropriate courses may be approved for this minor by petition. These courses or special topics must contain or deal with issues relevant to Asian American Studies in order to be approved for the Minor.
