About Us

Welcome to the Office of Retention and Graduation Initiatives (RGI) at the University of Houston. Our mission is simple: to welcome new students to the University of Houston and help those students be successful throughout the various stages of their academic journey. We do this through proactive outreach, data-driven initiatives, and personalized case management.

RGI consists of New Student Programs, which includes New Student Orientation and associated programs for student supporters; Peer Assistants (College Peer Assistants and Peer Assistant Leaders), and dedicated First Year and Progression degree completion teams focused on understanding challenges faced by First Year and first-time-in-college (FTIC) students and helping them progress smoothly towards graduation.

Collaborating with university partners, we employ strategic initiatives designed to assist new students as they enter the university, and enhance undergraduate retention and progression, all supported by data insights. Our interventions are informed and tailored based on individual studnt need, institutional data, maximizing student retention and monitoring timely degree completion.
