Dear Students,

Welcome to the University of Houston, land of the red and house of the Coogs! If this is your first semester on campus, please know that we are very happy to have you here. Your professors, advisers, support staff and administrators are committed to your success and are here to help you fulfill your dream of a college education. Here is some information that you will find helpful as you navigate the campus.

Course selection: I hope you have found the courses you need. Make sure to check the requirements for your major and/or talk to your adviser to ensure that the courses you are taking are the right ones and in the right sequence for you.

Looking for a scholarship? Thanks to our donors, the University is able to offer a variety of scholarships to help students lower the cost of a degree. We created a single searchable engine to help you find any and all eligible scholarships. Please visit the scholarship page to learn more.

Life beyond the classroom? Our campus is much more than a collection of classrooms. It is a place where you build networks, find friends, explore alternatives, learn life skills and embrace differences. You will find our campus to be a vibrant and exciting place with a large variety of student organizations, art exhibitions, music performances, renowned speakers and winning sports. Make the best of your time in college. Get started with the events planned for you during the Weeks of Welcome. I hope to see you at some of these events.

All on your smartphone: The UH Go app is a great resource for navigating life on campus. You can find and pay for meals, view your grades, access Blackboard and your digital Cougar Card, and explore upcoming events.

How about some sports? Your house—Coogs House—is home to nationally ranked and championship-winning athletics, including football and basketball. Admission is free for full-time students. Claim your free tickets to UH sporting events by logging into your account. Our first football home game is Saturday, Sept. 17 against Kansas.

Having trouble and need help? Your professor, advisers and staff are eager to help you. Reach out and ask for help. However, if you have made your own effort and are still unable to solve a problem, feel free to write to me at president@uh.edu. I will do my best to get your issue addressed quickly so that you can focus on your studies.

COVID-19 and Monkeypox: Please know that your safety and wellbeing are our priorities. To that effect, UH continues to monitor both COVID-19 and monkeypox. The latest information and guidelines are posted on our website. The Student Health Center is here to provide primary medical care and UH Wellness offers a variety of resources to enrich your well-being throughout your academic journey at UH.

As we embark on this new semester, I wish you all the best. And remember to wear red on Fridays. It is a campus tradition!

Go, Coogs!
