UH Closes for Day of Mourning; Finals Continue

December 4, 2018

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order designating Wednesday, Dec. 5, as an official Day of Mourning for our 41st president, George H.W. Bush. In keeping with his order, the University of Houston will be closed – however, all scheduled final exams and other essential activities will continue. Only essential staff as designated by division vice presidents are expected to report for work. Essential staff will be allowed another day off for observance within the week.

Like many of you, I hold a special place in my heart for President Bush’s service to our nation, his thoughtful tone of discourse and the pride he felt for our city. He was a friend of the University of Houston, and each time I had the privilege of seeing him he was inspiring and encouraging. For those of you who are working or attending class tomorrow, I hope you all will join me in a brief moment of silence at 9 a.m. to remember President Bush.

With warm regards,
Renu Khator
President
