Welcome

August 25, 2016

Dear UH Students –

For those of you who are new to our campus, let me say welcome to the University of Houston.  A great education awaits you! And to those who are returning, I'm so pleased to say welcome back. I admire your commitment, and I applaud your progress.

You are all part of a record-breaking student body, with an enrollment of nearly 43,500. But let me assure you that your individual success remains our top priority.  And, as I do each year, I have been meeting with many of you in person as I visit dozens of classes during this first week and the next. Even if I don't make it to one of your classes, let me encourage you to reach out to my office at president@uh.edu if you are unable to resolve a problem on your own.

I also want to let you know that we will have a couple of football games take place on Thursdays here at TDECU Stadium, which can be very exciting but also require certain accommodations across the campus.  Let me assure you we are working out solutions to keep any complications to a minimum.  We will share detailed information with you when the games get closer (Sept. 29 and Nov. 17).

I hope you have had a chance to participate in the many Weeks of Welcome activities that have been arranged to help connect students with University resources, student organizations and our surrounding community.  In particular, I urge you to attend  this afternoons  The Cat's Back event, which features a Student Organizations Fair, free food, some really fun Interactive activities, chances to win prizes and free T-shirts (while supplies last).  This is a great way to meet your fellow Cougars and get a spirited start on the fall semester.

And on Friday evening, I look forward to you joining me for Cougar Lights, the lighting celebration of the renovated Cullen Fountain.  It will be a colorful and illuminating experience for all of us!

Thank you for choosing to be a part of the UH community.  And Go Coogs!

With warm regards,

Renu Khator

President
