Fellow Cougars,

We continue to make remarkable progress in our efforts to achieve overall excellence at the University of Houston.

Following our classification as a Tier One institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Princeton Review’s naming us one of country’s best colleges for undergraduate education, UH has been ranked in the top tier in the latest evaluation report from TARU (Top American Research Universities).

This recognition by TARU is widely accepted as a Tier One qualification, and solidifies UH’s standing among the nation’s best public research universities.

UH was ranked among the Top 50 public research universities in three of the nine performance categories that TARU uses to measure research strength:  number of National Academy members, amount of endowment assets and amount of annual giving.  UH is on the brink in two other important categories: number of doctorates granted (ranked 54) and postdoctoral appointees (ranked 55), offering another clear indication of the university’s steady improvement.
  
Just two years ago, TARU included us in only one category in the Top 50. Now, we are on the cusp of reaching our goal to consistently rank in the Top 50 in five of nine measures, and rise to the Top 25 in at least one area.  This achievement is the result of your talent and hard work.
