Appointments are scheduled through HireNSM, NSMCC’s career platform. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click the Counseling tab in the top-right corner > Click the red tab, Request New Appointment > Select an appointment time and available date and time.

When your appointment has been approved, you’ll receive a notification in your HireNSM account with a link to the virtual appointment. After each counseling appointment, you will receive a personalized Career Action Plan.

Yes — NSMCC supports both current students and UH alumni for one full-year after graduation.

Yes — NSM students can access targeted resources via HireNSM, including job postings, interview prep, and major-specific career info. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click Resources tab at the top-right corner > Click on Document Library > Search by Tags (Career Choices, Clinical Hours Graduate Students, International Students, Internships, Interviewing, Job Fair, Job Search, Networking, Post-Graduation Life, Pre-Med, Post-Baccalaureate, Professionalism, Resume, and Templates).

Pathways Module 1 trains you to effectively research career options, narrow down your career interests, and establish your work values. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click Resources tab at the top-right corner > Click on Pathways Module 1.

Health Professions Advising offers additional information and support for students interested in a career in health professions, like medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dentistry, Physician Assistant, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and other health careers.

 

Search curated opportunities through the HireNSM system. Job Postings are updated bi-weekly. Set a job alert specific to your interests.

Pathways Module 2 trains you to effectively prepare a resume and cover letter. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click Resources tab at the top-right corner > Click on Pathways Module 2.

Once you have a prepared resume, go to Access UH > HireNSM > Add a Resume to upload your resume and receive personalized feedback from NSMCC staff, usually within 48 hours. Utilize Skillsyncer. You can also schedule an appointment for a personalized resume review with our Career Counselor.

Emphasize technical skills, projects, research, internships, work experience, and other relevant participation in student organizations and volunteer experiences.

Yes — NSM students often use HireNSM and Cougar Pathway, plus discipline-specific listings shared by the Career Center.

Undergraduate Research resources can help connect you with research programs, faculty opportunities, and how to approach professors to request a research opportunity.

Email undergrad-research@uh.edu to get the newsletter that contains both on and off-campus opportunities, undergraduate summer research programs, and scholarship and fellowship programs. Use the link to the Office of Undergraduate Research, which is the most comprehensive site for on-campus research experiences.

Pathways Module 4 explores multiple ways to gain experience in your career field. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click Resources tab at the top-right corner > Click on Pathways Module 4.

The Natural Sciences & Mathematics + Computer Science Career Fair & Grad School Expo is typically held each Fall semester during the month of September.

Declared NSM and CS majors are eligible to attend and connect with employers. Recent NSM + CS alumni within one year of graduation may also participate. All students and alumni must RSVP through HireNSM by the posted deadline.

Bring multiple copies of your updated résumé, a QR code linking to your résumé, and pen and paper for note-taking. A pad-folio is recommended to organize materials and provide a firm writing surface.

Yes — students must RSVP for all related Career Fair events through HireNSM.

Professional attire is required for the event. Students who do not meet the professional dress standard will be denied entry.

Students unable to obtain appropriate clothing due to financial constraints should contact the Career Center at least four weeks in advance. The Center can provide referrals or suggestions for budget-friendly options, but assistance is not guaranteed.

Employers seek candidates with relevant technical skills, strong communication abilities, curiosity, and clear career goals. They value students who demonstrate genuine interest in their organization and its opportunities, rather than those simply seeking any job or internship.

Yes — Through HireNSM, students can access two mock interviews per NSM major. Go to Access UH > HireNSM > Click Resources on the top-right > Click Mock Interview, where options are listed alphabetically by major. Behavioral mock interviews are 30 minutes, may be recorded, and can be shared with mentors or faculty for additional feedback. Students with scheduled employer interviews may also request a mock interview with a Career Counselor for personalized guidance and immediate feedback.
