Claremarie Verheyen

Associate Professor, Makeup and Costume History

Claremarie Verheyen is a successful freelance designer and technician who is currently an Associate Professor in the BFA Production program of the School of Theatre & Dance, teaching costume history, undergraduate costume design, and Intro to Theatre. During her 50 years as a professional theatre artist she has designed over 400 productions in drama, opera, dance, high fashion, film, video, television and commercials. She has advanced fashion millinery training and researched the original techniques for Commedia dell Arte masks in Italy. Prof. Verheyen was presented with the LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD by USITT SW. She has won many awards both locally and nationally for her Costume Designs. 

  

Prof. Verheyen serves on the advisory board for the Houston Community College of Fashion and Merchandising where she has offered classes in Theatrical Design and Technology. Ms. Verheyen has designed locally for Opera in the Heights, AD Players, Shakespeare by the Book, the Alley Theatre, Stages Repertory Theatre, The Lab Teatre, HCC Central, Stages Children’s Theatre, Moores School of Music Opera, and is currently serving as the resident costume designer for the Texas Repertory Theatre. She has been the featured designer at the Reginal Theatre Conference SW and regularly presents workshops for USITT, TxETA, and the Texas Thespian conventions.
