    In the face of a public health crisis, this is still a historic period for SURF as a record 87 students have received fellowships from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Major Awards (OURMA).
  • UH has Another Banner Year of Fulbright Awardees

    The University of Houston recorded another banner Fulbright year in 2019-2020. Eight alumni and current students were awarded grants to research and teach English abroad starting in January 2021. These recipients join a growing list of Cougars to earn a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award after UH was named a Top Producing Fulbright Institution for 2019-2020.
  • STEM Students Cap Outstanding Undergraduate Research Career with National Science Foundation Honor

    Two remarkable students from the Honors College and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics have received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships (NSF-GRFP) this year: Debora Mroczek, a senior graduating with a double degree in physics and mathematics, and Brian Vu, a senior physics major with a minor in mathematics.
  • Record Number of UH Students Named CLS Awardees

    A record number of University of Houston students were recognized as Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) honorees during the 2019-2020 academic year. Five outstanding candidates were named awardees, which is the most in school history. Ben Rayder, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Major Awards, notes that this accomplishment places UH among elite company nationally.

  • First Goldwater Awards Since 2011

    For the first time since 2011, not one, but two University of Houston students have been awarded the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship for sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering.
