Human Resource Development Professor Selected for Fulbright Award

UH Associate Professor, Consuelo Waight, will collaborate with University of Belize this fall.

Consuelo L. Waight, PhD, has been selected for a Fulbright award to Belize by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship BoardDr. Waight, is an associate professor in human resource development (HRD) and director of the executive and traditional options in the Master of Science in HRD degree in the College of Technology.

Beginning September 1, she will spend a semester at the University of Belize to study the human resource capacity and needs; assist in the design and development of a leadership training institute at the University of Belize; and, teach a course on design and management of training programs.

Much of her expertise with the executive HRD program, e-learning, and instructional design courses will be shared with the students and the faculty of management and social sciences at the University of Belize.

The Fulbright experience is a highly rewarding professionally and personally; and, Dr. Waight will join the ranks of more than 360,000 participants in the program since its beginnings in 1946.

This experience represents a return 'home' for Waight who earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Belize. In 1995 Waight was awarded a Fulbright Student Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in human resource development at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Reflecting on her own experience in the Fulbright program as a graduate student, Waight said, "The Fulbright experience enriched my personal and professional paths and gave me the capacity to participate in and contribute to the development of varied communities of learners through my research, teaching and service. I have so much gratitude for the mentors, friendships and the experiences that played an important role in my trajectory then, and now." Dr. Waight shared that her second Fulbright award is an opportunity to give back to a country that was instrumental in her formative education and scholarly development.

Waight said, "This award brings a deep sense of gratitude and happiness because it is an extraordinary opportunity for me to give back to people who influenced my formative education. Belize holds a special place in my heart, and I am grateful to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for the opportunity to be an ambassador of service, excellence and leadership."
