Message from Department Chair

Dear Spring and Summer 2020 Sociology Graduates,

On behalf of the faculty, lecturers, and staff of the Department of Sociology, we congratulate all of our Masters and Undergraduate Majors and Minors on your perseverance and your many successes as you complete your journey here at the University of Houston. Sociologists are trained to examine social problems, identify inequalities, consider cultural diversity, and critically analyze data ranging from scientific surveys and interviews to the latest figures on the evening news. These skills have always been necessary for societies to flourish, and they are perhaps more so as we rise to meet new and unexpected challenges. We hope that, as sociologists, you are equipped to move forward as leaders, teachers, and continuing learners in order to contribute to social changes we have yet to imagine. Congratulations Class of 2020!
