Congratulations
CLASS of 2020!
Modern and Classical Languages
Message from Department Chair
Dear Spring and Summer 2020 Modern and Classical Languages Graduates,
Hats off to the class of 2020! This is your day. Celebrate and enjoy! I sincerely wish I could be shaking your hand today as you cross the stage. Unfortunately, that cannot be. But be assured that your professors and advisors are proud of you and are cheering you on. You will be facing challenges as we all navigate uncharted waters under current difficult circumstances. Just remember that you have already proven yourself resilient and flexible by finishing your last semester via videoconference and online classes. You have gained proficiency in at least one new language. You have learned how to communicate effectively between cultures. You understand the formation of cultural identities and you have studied issues of globalization, gender, race, urbanism, colonialism and post-colonialism, migration, exile, and diaspora. You have developed research skills and know how to make an evidence-based argument. You can think creatively and solve problems. The competencies and knowledge you have acquired will be critical in moving us all forward as the world adjusts to the profound changes we are facing. Stay in touch. Send us pictures of virtual graduation caps you decorated and of those crazy impossible-to-walk-in shoes you would have bought for commencement.
Congratulations from all of us
