Biographical Summary

Dr. Lorra Garey is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Houston and an affiliate of the U54 RMCI HEALTH Center for Addictions Research and Cancer Prevention and UH HEALTH Research Institute at the University of Houston. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Houston and completed her clinical psychology internship at Brown University. Dr. Garey’s research focuses on developing, testing, and disseminating accessible, personalized, culturally informed behavioral health interventions for marginalized and underserved communities. She often employs the use of technology in her work and uses remote methods for her studies, allowing for broad reach and impact. The overall goal of her work is to improve quality of life, promote well-being, and reduce health disparities. Dr. Garey has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and books/book chapters on topics within her area of research and served as PI on several federally and privately funded grants, including research on accessible, integrated smoking cessation and mood management intervention for those with HIV.
