HHP Students and Alumni Win Black Alumni Association Awards.
The 22nd Annual Scholarships and Awards Gala presented by the University of Houston Black Alumni Association was held on March 25, 2011 at the Hilton Americas Houston. Cougars came together to raise money for scholarships and to honor distinguish alumni for their dedication to the University of Houston and the UHBAA.
Several HHP students won awards and scholarships at the gala. HHP alum Jason Phillips won the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Jason Phillips - 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award
Jason Phillips (’01) Recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award from the UH Black Alumni Association.
He just completed his eighth season at UH & his first season as the offensive coordinator.
Jason earned his bachelors degree in Kinesiology from UH in 2001.
The Black Alumni Association scholarships support the academic endeavors of outstanding African American students who exhibit good academic standing, leadership qualities and/or financial need.
Ashton Benjamin- Scholarship
HHP Student Ashton Benjamin received a scholarship award from the UH Black Alumni Association.
She is a kinesiology major studying sports medicine.

UHBAA was founded in 1988 as a special interest constituency of The University of Houston Alumni Association. Its mission is to strive to strengthen the relationship of alumni to UH; advance the interests and promote the welfare of the university; reunite black alumni with friends and classmates; and serve as a vehicle to address various concerns, issues and needs which impact black students, faculty, alumni and the community in general.
The University of Houston has over 11,000 African American alumni on file. UHBAA serves more than 600 active African American alumni paid members of The University of Houston Alumni Association. UHBAA has given close to $28,000 in scholarships since its inception. Proceeds from Scholarship and Awards Gala will benefit UHBAA Scholarships and Programs.
