Ms. Norah Vasen Selected as Health Education Major of the Year.

The AAHE Outstanding Majors program recognizes one outstanding undergraduate student majoring in health education/promotion from each degree track of the colleges or universities with professional preparation degree programs.  Ms. Norah Vasen has been selected as the University of Houston, Health Education Major of the Year.

Majors will be recognized during the 2009 AAHE/AAHPERD national convention in Tampa, Florida.  Recipients will be published in HExtra, the newsletter for the American Association for Health Education, and UPDATE, the newsletter of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. 

Norah is a senior post-baccalaureate student graduating in May 2009 with a BS in health education and promotion.  Upon graduation, she intends on obtaining her certification to be a certified health education specialist.  She is currently working in pediatric nutrition research at Baylor College of Medicine. For the past year, she has been interning with Brazos Abiertos, a non-profit organization working with communities in the Yucatan, Mexico to reduce the transmission of HIV, help facilitate sexual health education workshops and provide care for those living with HIV/AIDS http://www.hivyucatan.org/en/
