CLASS Dean’s Summer Internship Partners 2026

Four community partners are hosting CLASS Dean’s Internships in Summer 2026. You can find details about each of them here. Applicants must select a first choice and may select a second choice.
Community Family Centers (CFC)
Agency mission: CFC offers community-based social and educational services to low-income families in Houston’s East End. Its programs include food bank distribution, summer educational programs for youth, and adult literacy and education classes.
Type of work for interns: Interns will be assigned to one of the programs described above depending on their skills and interests.
Preferred qualifications Strong Spanish language skills are a plus, and are required for interns wishing to work directly with the community members served by the CFC.
Any additional information: interns work 20-25 hours per week
Harris County Attorney’s Office, Community Relations Office
Agency mission: This office of the District Attorney’s office works to foster communication with community groups and to build community awareness and trust by sponsoring events, forums, and outreach programs.
Type of work for interns: Interns work on communications and messaging programs for ongoing and special initiatives. Note that this internship is NOT focused on law enforcement or legal matters; it is ideal for students with interests in communications.
Preferred qualifications: experience with social media campaigns and/or with event management
Any additional information: Must attend internship orientation on May 18, 2026. UH interns may choose to work from May 18 – July 31 to match the schedules of their other intern cohort, but earlier start is not required. Interns work 30+ hours per week.
Heritage Society Houston
Agency mission The Heritage Society is an outdoor, interactive historic museum and park located in downtown Houston. The museum’s restored structures tell the story of Houston’s history to school-aged children and visitors from around the world.
Type of work for interns One intern will train as a tour guide and one intern will work in the archives. Will also assist with events, including special Juneteenth activities.
Preferred qualifications Preference given to students who are History majors or minors
Additional information The Heritage Society is open Tuesday – Saturday only, 10-4. Work schedules will need to be arranged during these hours. Some Saturday events. Interns work 20-30 hours per week.
Houston Mayor’s Office
Agency mission The Houston Mayor is responsible for the general management of the City and for seeing that all laws and ordinances are enforced. The Mayor’s office assists with these duties and works to develop policies and oversight strategies. The Mayor’s office fosters communication with Houston residents, businesses and civic organizations.
Type of work for interns Interns will work as part of teams developing policy initiatives to address community needs in areas such as homelessness, economic development, education, and cultural affairs.
Preferred qualifications particularly suited for students with interests in public service, public policy, community development, or communications.
Any additional information There will be optional opportunities to be involved with weekend events (in which case work hours are shifted from other days). Interns work 25-32 hours per week.
