Humanities Lab Call for Proposals
Do you manage or work for an organization in Houston that could use help with outreach,
research, writing, or project development? Have you ever wanted help with documenting
and preserving the history of your organization? Or have you thought about creating
a historical exhibit, white paper, database, or web content? After a five-year hiatus,
the University of Houston Department of History, in partnership with the Center for
Public History, is re-launching the UH Humanities Lab in Spring 2027.
Modeled on a legal clinic, the Humanities Lab makes the skills and expertise of humanities
graduate students available to community partners in Greater Houston. We offer free
services to community organizations, local government, museums, non-profits, faith-based
organizations, and small businesses in the following areas:
• grant writing
• indexing and copy editing
• website and social media content
• archival research
• digital and physical archive creation
• curation and exhibit development
• historical preservation and documentation
• oral history projects
• qualitative and quantitative data analysis
• program evaluation
• press releases and public relations
• community outreach
We are currently seeking proposals from local businesses, non-profits, and community
organizations for Humanities Lab projects that can be completed by students in up
to 50 hours (total) over a span of 10 weeks. Proposals should include a 1-2 page cover
letter specifying your organization; the services you seek from our graduate students;
and your requested time frame for service delivery between February and April. Please
also specify your contact information, preferred file sharing format, and any other
information that may be relevant to your proposal.
The submission deadline is December 11th, 2026.
While we will prioritize organizations based in Greater Houston, any projects that
are relevant to the Greater Houston community will receive consideration. Feel free
to distribute this Request for Proposals widely. We welcome all inquiries! No question
you may have is too big or small.
