    UH Receives Anonymous $4 Million Gift to Support Creative Writing and Other Liberal Arts Programs

    The University of Houston College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) has received a $4 million anonymous gift in support of its Creative Writing Program, among multiple CLASS initiatives. “This gift matters because it provides support for key strategic initiatives in CLASS, surrounding student success, faculty success and community engagement. Numerous academic departments/programs, especially creative writing, will benefit from this generous gift,” said Antonio D. Tillis, dean of CLASS and M.D. Anderson Professor in Hispanic Studies. “The University of Houston is fortunate to exist in a community where individual donors want to be stakeholders in everything we do to enhance the academic experience for our students.” This gift comes at a period of unprecedented growth, expansion and opportunity for CLASS and is the single largest donation that the college has received.     The UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts and the Office of the Provost to Host the Colour of Music Festival

    The Spring 2018 University Commencement was held on May 10th. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner delivered the keynote address and accepted the 2018 President’s Medallion on behalf of the thousands of city employees ( “Hurricane Harvey Heroes”) who rose to the challenge of representing the strength and resiliency that define Houston.

    UH CLASS Commorates 50th Anniversary of MLK's Assassination[BROKEN LINK]

    On April 4, 1968, an assassin took the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the most prominent civil rights leader of the 20th century. In remembrance of Dr. King’s life and work, Dr. Antonio D. Tillis, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and M. D. Anderson Professor in Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston, hosted ab event commemorating the acclaimed civil rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient on the 50th anniversary of his death. The event was held on April 4, 2018, at the UH A.D. Bruce Religion Center. Rev. Dr. William A. Lawson, Founding Pastor Emeritus of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, discussed the civil rights movement and his personal relationship with Dr. King. Read more[BROKEN LINK] | UH News Release
