The team is divided into design, production, delivery, and promotional sales.

Design team offers high-quality service

The design team is the sole authorized vendor for all the stationery on campus and collaborates with designers from colleges and departments across the UH system.

“We receive already designed files that need to be printed,” said Eric Dowding, graphics and communications manager, CPD. “We therefore verify, adjust, and ‘flight check’ files before sending them to be printed to ensure a seamless process and a high-quality product. In many instances, we also help campus designers make technical and material choices, such as the type of paper and bindery options.”

The team works closely with the Office of Protocol and Special Events to meet the printing needs for commencement, including books, signage, and credentialing for 19 ceremonies.

The team also provides graphic design services from the initial graphic brief to the final printed product to departments who do not have their own design team, or their team needs extra help.

Dowding, graphics manager, brings more than 40 years of experience and oversees the graphic jobs processed on the computer-to-plate system.

He is supported by Seleste Bautista, the lead graphic designer with 25 years of experience, and Kathy Fieldcamp, the lead web designer/graphic designer with 23 years of experience.

“The University of Houston is very lucky to have an on-site printshop, as it offers many advantages that include: a privileged relationship with the campus departments, the proximity, pricing, and timing,” said Dowding. “We pride ourselves in maintaining a high level of quality in all the pieces we produce.”

CPD has expanded to include promotional sales, led by Leslie Traore, who also works in printing operations. Bautista assists with graphic design for promotional items.

Production team takes pride in what they do

Led by Sami Snelling, the production manager with 37 years of experience, the production department handles proofing, printing, and finishing jobs.

Snelling is joined by Juan Lazoya, press operator with 27 years of experience, and Salvador Bautista, who has 44 years of industry experience. The team is known for their high-quality work and dedication.

“I love my team — they are like family. They’re always ready to do what we need to do to complete the jobs, so they look the best to go out and represent the University. Our work is seen by a lot of people on and off campus. We take pride in what we do,” said Snelling.

Delivery team steps up to meet needs

The Delivery Services team, managed by Karen Flores, handles incoming and outgoing mail and packages from various couriers. They sort, process, and deliver items to recipients on campus, including student housing. Flores oversees seven postal assistants who are cross-trained on campus routes and equipment.

Postal assistants Anthony Stewart, Harold Fort, Maria Rivera, Erendira Deloya, and Willie Rivera are all cross-trained on the five campus routes, which include one student route and four staff/faculty routes, and the equipment used for metering outgoing USPS mail for the University.

“We are a small and mighty team that will step up for any occasion when needed,” said Flores.
