The long-awaited Houston Blue apparel delivered a smashing success for the UH Campus Store.

The Houston Blue gear began selling on Friday, November 1st and even before doors opened, a line of eager Coogs awaited their opportunity to nab some of the Houston Blue gear. Houston Blue options included polo shirts, jerseys, hats, mini football helmets, towels, and t-shirts.

And while the store did not physically begin selling Houston Blue apparel until opening, online orders began at midnight.  From midnight to 9 a.m., when the doors opened, the store had received 200 Houston Blue apparel orders.

While UH Campus Store employees expected the merchandise to be popular, the large sales and orders were still surprising, said Campus Store Manager Natalie Silva. The sales and demand for the Houston Blue merchandise proved even more popular than last year’s Big 12 merchandise launch.

Timothy Jackson, Follet Market Leader for the UH System, said while all Houston Blue merchandise sold well, one item stood out from the rest – football jerseys.

Football jerseys are not a big seller traditionally but were one of the items that sold out. Jackson noted the UH Campus Store has placed an order to replenish the sold-out items and could be back in stock in time for the UH vs Baylor football game on Nov. 23.

Senior Josh Martin was among those that visited the campus store on the first day that the Houston Blue items were available.

“I feel like H-Town blue is a color that proudly represents the city of Houston,” said the political science major.

Martin purchased three items but admits he had to contain himself from buying more.

UH alumni Sason Tavakoli-Sabour, a physician at UT Health, made sure to stop by the campus store and said he’s glad to be in the workforce and in the position to be able to buy plenty of merch.

“I’m a huge UH fan. I graduated in 2012. "We [my wife and I] were actually the most spirited couple in the last yearbook they published so this is a huge deal to me,” said Tavakoli-Sabour who bought some jerseys and shirts. “I go to all the football games, the basketball games, and we’ve been waiting for this to come back.”
