Inaugural A&F Staff Appreciation Luncheon Puts Spotlight on Employees

The Administration and Finance Staff Appreciation Luncheon was a time for colleagues from across the Division to come together to enjoy a meal, re-connect, and celebrate accomplishments and employee years of service milestones. 

The Staff Appreciation Luncheon was held on October 4th in a packed Houston Room in the Student Center South. Lisa Shumate, Associate Vice President, UH System & General Manager at Houston Public Media, served as the event facilitator.

In his divisional remarks, A&F Senior Vice Chancellor/Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Raymond Bartlett brought attention to the many employees who met years of service milestones with the university. 

“The depth of experience within our division is impressive – nearly 60 percent of our Administration and Finance employees have at least 5 years of service with the university,” said Bartlett.

The final program component was dedicated to honoring employees who demonstrated exceptional service from 2020-22. The award recipients were nominated by their peers. 

In total, five teams and 10 individuals – totaling 39 employees – were recognized by A&F senior leaders and received a plaque and additional gifts.

The Stay Cougar S.A.F.E. “Co-Producer of Safety” Award was received by the Houston Public Media Health & Safety Committee for their work in co-producing safety for the division that started with COVID-19. 

The Team Impact award was bestowed upon four teams – UIT Security Team, Food Safety Team, Environmental Health & Safety Laboratory Safety Team, and the Parking and Transportation Services team – for their work on a team project or initiative.

Susan Koch, Chief Compliance Officer, was awarded the Friend of the Family Award for the outstanding support and service she provided on the university’s COVID-19 Coordination Group and the COVID-19 Response Team.

The Silent Service Award was awarded to five individuals – Diane Sylvester, Erik Rojas, Henry Pham, June Lawrence, and Nicole Clementine, for their tireless work “behind the scenes” which contributes toward the Division’s strategic goals. 

The final award of the Appreciation Luncheon was the S.P.I.R.I.T. of Service Excellence Award. Jennifer Rea, Samantha Yurus, and Dawn Mopkins were the recipients as they demonstrated a high level of professionalism, enthusiasm, pride, service and performance teamwork in their day-to-day work activities over the past two years.
