Did You Know?

There is a significant relationship between spiritual and mental health. Spirituality has been found to help with depression, self-esteem, mood disorders, and overall emotional stability.

Resources

  • UH Wellness, located inside the Rec Center, offers free mindfulness meditation each week, open to all faculty, staff, and students- no experience required! Visit the UH Wellness website for schedule information.
  • UH offers both a major and a minor in Religious Studies. All students can choose from over 40 different courses the campus has to offer to learn about different religions from around the world.
  • The UH A.D. Bruce Religion Center offers a space for students of all religions to carry out their religious or spiritual practices. Several rooms are available for worship, study and meditation.
  • 31%Percent of college students who identify with no religion at all (CIRP, 2016).
  • 1/2Meditation has been found to reduce the relapse rate of depression by at least one-half (Teasdale et al., 200).
  • 6Yoga is the sixth most common health practice among adults. It has been proven to reduce stress, illness, and pain and to improve cognitive ability (NHIS, 2007)
