K.C. Schuette's Summer 2013 Blog

K.C. Schuette

I'm a senior undergraduate chemical engineering student volunteering my time in Dr. Vekilov's protein crystallization lab. My project this summer is to study parts of the mechanism of beta-hematin crystallization. This is exciting research since this protein is important in the development of antimalarial medications. If the crystallization mechanism can determined, than drug inhibitors can be created to prevent crystal growth, and the malaria parasite will poison itself. Follow my blog In Crystallization to learn why and to follow my project this summer!
