The mission of the University of Houston Office of Online and Distance Education is to support the University’s goal to offer nationally and internationally competitive academic programs by assisting the administration and development of a wide range of online and off-campus courses and programs, and to serve current and prospective students, staff, and faculty to increase educational access and opportunities.
The University of Houston has been a leader in distance education since 1953 when the University’s licensed television station, KUHT, became the nation’s first Educational TV station. University of Houston college courses were among the educational programming being delivered over KUHT in these early days.
From these modest beginnings, UH now offers more than 300 distance education courses each year to more than 40,750 students across the nation and globe. UH Distance Education offers courses and programs both online and off-campus at several locations throughout Houston.
