If you are a trans-identified student and want to have a name other than your legal name appear on your Cougar Card ID, please contact Lorraine Schroeder, director of the LGBTQ Resource Center.
Student Center, Rm. N201
The preferred name is now the default name on the class roster, grade roster, student milestones, transcript notes, grade change request and any printer friendly documents (self-service only). If there is not a preferred name listed then the primary name is displayed.
Here is how students can enter a preferred name
- Log in to myUH
- Click "Main Menu" dropdown list
- Select "Campus Personal Information"
- Select "Names"
- Click on edit button next to "Preferred"
- Change and click save button
At this time, the students “legal” gender is still what is listed on their school record, but under most circumstances, gender is not indicated on the screen of UH employees.
Gender Inclusive Housing
The Gender Diversity Living Learning Community (LLC) welcomes students of all gender identities and expressions who are seeking a safe, inclusive, comfortable, and supportive living environment. This may include students who identify as male, female, trans, gender non-conforming, or non-binary. Members will be able to explore expanded definitions and roles of gender in society, and engage community members in critical dialogues. Opportunities for community building, educational programming, and social events will be available throughout the year. This community will also have direct connections to campus support services and academic departments on-campus. This community will be housed in Cougar Place and Cougar Village.
For more information or to receive an application, email Carrie Cooper at firstname.lastname@example.org.
