Since 2012, CICS has sponsored more than fourteen nationally recognized speakers to campus to discuss current affairs with students, faculty and the Houston community.During its first year of inception, the Center orchestrated a conference on oil and gas development in Latin America and brought local and national experts together for the UH and broader Houston community. Since then, CICS has sponsored speakers lecturing on topics such as Latin American politics, energy policy, international human rights, American bilateral relations with various countries, and terrorism. Guest speakers have included David Firestein of the East-West Institute, Dr. Trita Parsi from Georgetown University, author Matthew Levitt, and Colonel Wilkenson, the former Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell.
