Eligibility & Requirements
Admission Requirements for this Major:
- Freshman Admission Requirements: All applicants accepted to the University of Houston as freshman are eligible to declare this major. See UH Freshman admission requirements.
- Transfer Admission Requirements: All applicants accepted to the University of Houston as transfer students are eligible to declare this major. See UH Transfer admission requirements.
- Major Change Requirements: There is no minimum GPA requirement to change to this major, and any UH student pursuing a Bachelor's degree may change to this major at any time. (This major is not intended for Post-baccalaureate students; instead, studenst seeking to take coursework after they graduate, such as prerequisites for graduate school application should apply to the Exploratory Studies PB program.)
- Readmission Requirements: All former UH undergraduate students seeking to complete their Bachelor's degree are eligible to reapply to this major. See UH Readmission for Former UH Students requirements.
The B.S. in Integrated Studies degree consists of three components including:
- Texas Core Curriculum: 42 hours
- Major/Concentration Area coursework: 36 hours (see details below)
- Elective coursework: 42 hours
Total Degree Hours for Completion: 120
*Some courses may satisfy more than one requirement. Students should see their academic advisor to confirm.
Major/Concentration Area coursework
- Students complete 36 major hours as one of these options:
- Two Concentration Option: Two 18-hour Concentration Areas, or
- Three Concentration Option: Three 12-hour Concentration Areas.
- Concentration Areas will be selected from the approved list (see course prefixes associated with each Concentration Area)
- Arts, Architecture and Design.
- Business and Consumer Sciences
- Education
- Engineering and Technology
- Liberal Arts
- Science, Health Sciences, and Math
- Social Sciences
- Students must earn a 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA in the concentration area courses.
- At least 50% (18 credit hours) of the Concentration Area courses must be advanced.
- Students may petition to use a completed minor in place of a Concentration Area. In this case, students must complete all requirements for the chosen Minor, including required GPA. If a minor is used in this way, the remaining Concentration Area(s) must include coursework sufficient to meet the 36 major hours and advanced coursework requirements.
To graduate with a B.S. in Integrated Studies, students must:
- Earn a 2.0 minimum cumulative grade point average
- Complete 120 total hours
- Meet Integrated Studies requirements
- Complete all other General Requirements for a Baccalaureate Degree.
