Staff & Faculty Opportunities
Staff have a unique perspective on sustainability compared to students or faculty.
For them, the institution is primarily a place where they hone their craft or profession
and earn a living, while also fostering collegial partnerships and personal friendships.
Efforts to create strong benefits and services, opportunities for leadership and career
growth, and a positive campus culture are integral to their experience. Sustainability
programs enhance the workplace, making it healthier, more comfortable, and contributing
to a cleaner environment.
As caretakers of the University's resources, staff are encouraged to participate in
sustainability initiatives on campus through the following programs and resources.

Green Offices

Certify your department with Green Offices, a program from the Office of Sustainability, to maximize your office's sustainability efforts. The Green Offices team is dedicated to aligning our workspaces with the University of Houston's commitment to sustainability. Begin by reducing paper waste, enhancing recycling practices, and adopting energy-efficient measures to support a greener, more sustainable campus.
Green Laboratories
Green Labs, a program within Environmental Health & Safety, is a resource designed to help UH faculty, staff, and students operate more environmentally-friendly labs without compromising research integrity. The Green Labs team is dedicated to enhancing lab sustainability on campus by assisting researchers in minimizing waste, reducing water and energy consumption, and implementing Green Chemistry principles.Sustainability Committee
The Sustainability Committee maintains a close strategic relationship with the Office of Sustainability, offering staff a platform to collaborate on and contribute to sustainability initiatives at the university.
Staff perceive sustainability differently than students or faculty. They view the institution primarily as a place to practice their profession and earn a living, while also fostering collegial partnerships and personal friendships. A positive campus culture thrives on robust benefits and services, leadership and career growth opportunities, and is further enhanced by sustainability programs that create a healthier, more comfortable, and environmentally-friendly workplace.Insitutional Memberships
