B.S. - Atmospheric Science Starts Fall 2023
Great News! The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) approved the new B.S. in Atmospheric Science on May 20, 2023. The program started on August 21, 2023. In Fall 2025 we had more than 20 undergraduate students and are well on track according to the projections.
Welcome New Faculty!
Kunxiaojia (Tammy) Yuan, Assistant Professor
Dr. Yuan investigates how ecosystems respond to climate dynamics and disturbances
(e.g., wildfire, deforestation, flooding) through carbon-water-energy nexus. To achieve
this, she integrates interpretable machine learning, causal inference, Earth system
modeling, remote sensing, and field measurements.
Honghai Zhang, Assistant Professor
Dr. Zhang is interested in climate variability and change. His expertise includes
tropical climate dynamics, interactions between tropics and extratropics, global hydrological
cycle, and numerical modeling of El Nino-Southern Oscillation.
Youtong Zheng, Assistant Professor
(Presidential Frontier Faculty Hire) Dr. Zheng studies the physics of clouds and
their roles in climate and climate change, using a hierarchy of approaches ranging
from pencil-and-paper theory to comprehensive computer models to satellite and experimental
observations.
