Murderball returns to the University of Houston as Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston welcomes teams for the 2015 Wheelchair Rugby Cougar Cup Tournament.
The tournament is planned for Feb. 27 – March 1 at the UH Campus Wellness and Recreation Center. Five teams from across the country will gather at UH to compete against other wheelchair athletes for the coveted Cougar Cup prize.
“This is our second annual Cougar Cup tournament and we are so excited to welcome these athletes back to Houston and UH,” said Serjio Brereda, Adaptive Athletics Co-Founder and Past-President. “Even more exciting is the buzz this sport and these athletes get when they come to town.”
Wheelchair rugby earned the moniker “murderball” because of the aggressive play of the athletes.
Adaptive Athletics at the University of Houston is a student organization that aims to create a UH athletics program for students with disabilities. The group began in 2013 under the supervision of Assistant Professor Michael Cottingham of the Department of Health and Human Performance. In 2014, Adaptive Athletics was named the Undergraduate Student Organization of the Year.
