Science, Economics and Technology for Houston Lecture (SETH)

The Hobby School of Public Affairs welcomed American economist and former U.S. deputy national security advisor for international economics and deputy director of the National Economic Council Daleep Singh to the University of Houston on Jan. 18 as the inaugural speaker for the Science, Economics and Technology for Houston Lecture (SETH). Singh oversaw the Biden administration's sanctions response against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. He discussed the intersection of economics and global geopolitics, economic sanctions as a bipartisanship tool and deploying economic statecraft to an audience of students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members.

We invite you to revisit the presentation and check out event photos. The presentation will be available for educational purposes for a limited time.

Thank you to our University of Houston colleagues and friends at the UH Law Center for hosting the lecture at the John M. O'Quinn Law Building. The SETH Lecture Series is made possible by the generous support of CORBŪ.

About the Science, Economics and Technology for Houston Lecture Series
The Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston established the Security, Economics and Technology for Houston (SETH) lecture series in partnership with the University of St. Thomas' Center for International Studies and Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy in 2023 to convene thought-provoking public lectures and assemblies on national security issues relevant to Houston and the state of Texas. SETH enriches the learning experience for students across the region from various disciplines, including public administration, public policy, global affairs and international relations. The lecture series is a vehicle for Houston to host leading experts on critical topics such as border security, pandemic resilience and foreign influence operations representing numerous political, military, economic and social issues.
