Basheer Khumawala

Basheer Khumawala is currently the John & Rebecca Moores Professor of Supply Chain Management in the C. T .Bauer College of Business at University of Houston. He started his academic career as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was promoted to Full Professor in just eight years. He has been at the University of Houston since 1978. Additionally, he has also served as an adjunct Professor at Rice, Purdue, and Clemson Universities in the U.S. and in Universities in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico and India. He has lectured at several national and international Universities and participated extensively in conferences worldwide. 

He has published widely in numerous prestigious journals in his field, served on editorial and advisory boards of several on journals and the boards of professional and academic organizations. He has also chaired and mentored a number of Ph.D. students who have held faculty and administrative positions in Universities such as University of Southern California, The Ohio State University, Syracuse University, Wake Forest University, Georgia Tech, University of North Carolina @ Wilmington, Lehigh, George Mason, and Bryant University in the U.S. and at Universities in several other countries.

His services at the University of Houston includes serving in the Faculty Senate, Chair of the University P&T committee, Chair of the Department of Decision Sciences, Chair of the Department of Management Systems & Strategy, and numerous others at the department, college and University levels.

His recognitions and awards include: Fellow of the Decision Science Institute, Fellow of the Pan- Pacific Business Association, Fulbright Senior Faculty Specialist, a day named in his honor by the Mayor of Houston, dinner meeting at the White House with the President of United States, invocation at the openings of the Texas Senate in Austin, and invocation & benediction at commencements at UH and at Rice University. 

As a Fulbright Senior Faculty Specialist (2006-11), he was invited by the Bandung Institute of Technology in Bandung, Indonesia, where he delivered several lectures, participated in conferences, consulted with their administration and faculty on Masters and doctoral programs and in establishing relationship with industries. While in Indonesia he was invited to give lectures at other Universities, notably in Jakarta and Jog-Jakarta.
