Members of the Solid Waste team are excited to participate in two school Career Day
events in mid-May, both within Aldine Independent School District (AISD). The team
will visit Lola Mae Carter Academy on May 12, 2026, and Clifford M. Dunn Elementary
on May 13.
In late March, Solid Waste engaged with more than 100 students at Reed Elementary School during the school’s Career Day event. This marked the third year the team has been invited to participate in Career Day for AISD.
Assistant Director of Campus Services DeAnthony Thomas, Supervisor Thomas Robertson, Collector/Driver Gary Jackson, and Collector Adela Leal shared insights on the many career opportunities available within Campus Services at the University of Houston. This collaboration also provided a meaningful opportunity to help educate children on the importance of keeping a safe distance around solid waste trucks, while also using the visit to bring the solid waste truck onto the freeway as part of its routine maintenance needs.
The team looks forward to more opportunities to engage the greater Houston community.
