The University of Houston is continuing to invest in campus-wide lighting improvements as part of its ongoing commitment to campus safety. From new lighting installations and upgrades to routine repairs and maintenance, these efforts are designed to improve visibility across campus and support a safe environment for everyone who learns, lives and works at UH.
Lighting improvements are one part of UH’s broader, long-term effort to strengthen campus safety. By enhancing visibility and investing in upgrades to existing infrastructure, the University is committed to maintaining a campus environment that is well-lit, welcoming and conducive to student success.
Facilities/Construction Management (F/CM) leads these efforts and is expanding its approach to campus lighting maintenance operations. This includes establishing a dedicated team to maintain the 2,500+ light poles across campus by conducting conducting routine inspections every two weeks to identify and address any broken lights as quickly as possible.
In addition to maintenance, the University follows specific lighting and design standards for each project to help promote consistency, visibility and safety across campus.
Use the interactive map below to explore projects across campus that have lighting enhancements, including those that are ongoing, completed, and/or scheduled for the future.
