Key Audit Process

Ordering

Individual Room & Building Keys - Start with your department, professor, or lab manager. They will assist you in requesting a key and obtaining the proper signature approval.

Card Access - Start with your department, professor, or lab manager. They will assist you in requesting card access and obtaining the proper signature approval.

Desk & Cabinet Keys - Submit a key request via Access UH.

Lost or Stolen Key Reporting Process

Effective December 1, 2019, lost keys will no longer be reported to UHPD. A Lost or Stolen Key Report form will need to be filled out and delivered to Key Access Services. Stolen Keys will continue to be reported to UHPD to obtain a case number prior to filling out the Lost or Stolen Key Report form.

Key Cutting Cost

Effective September 1, 2013, the non-refundable fee of $10.00 (per key) covers the cost of labor and materials associated in issuing any key requested, including; door, sub-master, security, mechanical and desk keys. Please note, the $10.00 flat rate is a service fee and any keys issued should continue to be returned to the Facilities Service Center once the key/access is no longer needed. The price has changed to ensure proper cost recovery and will be the same regardless of key type.

Payments with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard and Discover) or department cost center are accepted.

FAQs

I am locked out of my office. What do I do? Contact Campus Police at 713-743-3333

How do I get a key or card access? Please see your department, professor, or lab manager.

How will I know when my key is ready to be picked up at Key Access Services (KAS)? The key holder receives an email, at the email address set-up in PASS, once the key is ready for pick-up. 

How long do I have to pick up my key? You have 30 days to pick up your key. After 30 days, unclaimed keys will be returned to the Lock Shop. You must complete a new key request form to obtain your key(s). 

What do I do if I lost my key?  The first step is to contact your department and let them know about the missing key(s). Complete Lost or Stolen Key Report Form and deliver to KAS. A reference number and receipt will be issued by KAS.

What do I do if my key was stolen? The first step is to contact your department and let them know about the stolen key(s). Then contact UHPD to file a police report to obtain a case number. Once a case number is given, complete the Lost or Stolen Key Report Form and deliver to KAS. A reference number and receipt will be issued by KAS.

Can I order multiple copies of a key? Unfortunately, you are only allowed to have one of the same type of key. If your department needs multiple copies of a key then separate request for separate people must be made.

What do I do if the key I need is not on the system? If the key you need to request is not showing up on the key request form then we ask that you please fill out a help form found on the Key Request tab and we will try and resolve the issue as soon as we can.
