The Office of Admissions is extending the Fall 2018 priority scholarship deadline from Nov. 15, 2017, to Jan. 3, 2018. The priority consideration deadline for the Honors College has also moved to Jan. 3, 2018.
Shortly after Hurricane Harvey, the Office of Admissions hosted hundreds of school counselors around the country for our annual Counselor Update events. The feedback was overwhelming that students and counselors are in need of more time to apply for admission, take the ACT or SAT, complete application fee waiver forms, and submit transcripts to their colleges of interest.
The Admissions team have observed a high level of stress from high school seniors who have less time to meet college deadlines while balancing the increased demands of their school work due to a shortened semester. More families are financially pinched due to the hurricane, which has led to a significant increase in fee waiver requests for school counselors to process.
With the support of UH’s administration, the decision to extend the scholarship deadline is an important decision to be supportive of our community and its schools. The Admissions team appreciates the support of the UH community by offering flexibility in any college or department related processes for admissions.
