Office of Emergency Management Collaborates with UH Building Coordinators

Building Coordinator

In the latest Building Coordinators Meeting, held on January, emergency preparedness took center stage as Maia Solomon, Emergency Management Specialist, presented key resources and opportunities for collaboration between building coordinators and the emergency management team.

The meeting highlighted the vital role that building coordinators play in ensuring safety and preparedness within their facilities. Solomon introduced a variety of templates and tools designed to enhance emergency readiness, including Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP), Building Emergency Response Plans, and Special Event Venue Plans. These resources help building coordinators develop robust response strategies tailored to their unique environments. Many of these resources can be found on the OEM website.

Beyond planning tools, Solomon encouraged building coordinators to take an active role in preparedness by joining the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training available at the end of February. Additionally, coordinators were informed of the emergency preparedness posters available for their buildings which ensure that critical preparedness and response information is accessible to occupants.

The ongoing collaboration between building coordinators and emergency management is a reflection of the dual ambition to keep our community safe. By working together, sharing resources, and fostering engagement, both teams contribute to a more prepared and resilient campus environment.
