UHPD The university’s police department hosts CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training which prepares individuals should they be confronted with an active shooter event. Learn more about CRASE training courses and how to register for the next one. The department also provides security escorts to campus community members who have safety concerns and would like to have a security officer walk with them as they make their way across campus. Campus community members who would like to use this service can call 713-743-3333. UHPD has also introduced a new texting service where campus community members can text UHPD at 713-743-3333.

Fire & Life Safety The Fire Marshal’s Office has two training courses available for the campus community, General Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher training. The department has a Bullseye Digital Fire Extinguisher Training System that allows participants to practice putting out fire without the need for an actual fire. Learn more about Fire & Life Safety’s trainings and how you can book one a training.

Office of Emergency Management The Office of Emergency Management’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is offered twice a year. The program prepares attendees to help themselves, their family, and neighborhood by being prepared in a disaster. The training includes disaster preparedness, fire suppression, disaster medical operations, search and rescue, incident command system, terrorism awareness, and disaster drill and simulation. Learn more about CERT training. OEM also keeps the campus community informed and prepared by providing Hurricane Preparedness information. The department has a Hurricane Response Guide available and a checklist for what everyone should have in their hurricane readiness kit. Learn more about the Office of Emergency Management.

Occupational Health Services The university’s Occupational Health Services departments’ aim is to promote the health and well-being of the campus community by preventing occupational-related disease, injury and illness. OHS offers American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR/AED trainings to all interested employees. The life-saving procedure is taught in a four-hour in-person course. Attendees will learn to recognize and respond accurately to cardiac emergencies. Learn more about the CPR/AED training and how you can enroll.

University Resources The university offers many tools and services to help keep the campus community safe. Many of these services can be found on the UH Go App, which is a must-have for all faculty, staff, and students. The UH Go App is one-stop shop that allows users easy access to services such as: • The Cougar Ride After-Hours Shuttle Service, a program from Parking & Transportation Services, provides rides to and from all on-campus shuttle stops including MD Anderson Library, and Cougar Village and the Moody Towers. • The UH Go Emergency Call button connects a user, and their location, to UHPD. • More than 240 Emergency Blue Light Phones across the campus.
