Inaugural Edition of Chemical Safety Moment Receives Positive Feedback and Impact

Moment.jpgThe inaugural edition of the Chemical Safety Moment newsletter, launched by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) in March, has been positively received within the University of Houston research/teaching community.

The newsletter serves as a vital platform for disseminating essential chemical and laboratory safety knowledge, awareness, training resources, and lessons learned within the UH research community. The newsletter aims to share valuable insights on chemical storage, segregation, handling, and disposal to promote a safer work environment across the UH main campus.

Principal Investigators (PIs), researchers, and students have expressed appreciation for the valuable insights shared in the newsletter.

"I love the Chemical Safety Moment newsletter. I've saved it for use in the teaching labs. I look forward to the future additions,” said Biology Professor Dr. Donna Pattison. “This is a great idea. Good length and great formatting with the yellow and black border."

In addition to the positive feedback, an increase in participation was also observed for the self-paced cryogenic liquids safety awareness training, which was released by EHS last December. This increase in participation highlights the importance of continuous education and awareness efforts to ensure a safer laboratory environment.

Moving forward, the Chemical Safety Moment newsletter will be distributed every two months to all UH PIs with chemical permits and their laboratory personnel, continuing to provide chemical and laboratory safety knowledge/best practices, awareness, training resources, and lessons learned, etc. within the UH research/teaching community.
