Travel Outside the United States

I will return to the LCC. What do I need to do before traveling outside the United States?

Before traveling, bring the following items to the Director of Student Services and obtain a travel signature:

  • your Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status
  • your flight itinerary issued by the airline

I have to travel during a semester. What do I need to do?

First, speaker to your teachers, explain why you need to travel, and let them know your departure and return dates. Your teachers are required to mark you absent for the days you miss classes. Then meet with the Director of Student Services to obtain a travel signature (see above).

I will study in the LCC next semester. When may I leave the United States and when should I return?

If you leave the United States earlier or return later than the requirements below, you might not receive a travel signature and you will be asked to change your flights:

  • Do not leave the United States until you have attended the LCC Final Student Conference on the LCC Graduation day.
  • If you missed any promotion tests at the end of the previous semester, return to the United States before the LCC Student Check-In day.
  • If you took all promotion tests at the end of the previous semester, return to the United States before the first day of classes.

I will not study in the LCC next semester. When should I leave the United States?

Generally, you will not obtain a travel signature from the LCC unless you intend to return to the LCC.

  • Levels 1 to 5 students: Email your flight itinerary to LCCDSO@uh.edu before the next LCC Student Check-In day and leave the United States immediately. In the email, provide your full name and myUH ID.
  • Level 6 graduates: Leave the United States within 60 days of the LCC Graduation day.

What do I need to bring when I return to the United States?

Keep all documents below in your carry-on luggage:

  • your Form I-20 recently signed by the Director of Student Services
  • your Passport. Keep it valid at least 6 months into the future.
  • your F-1 visa. You do not need to apply for a new visa unless it has expired.
  • evidence of financial support, such as a bank statement issued recently or a Financial Guarantee
  • the I-901 SEVIS Fee payment receipt
