METRO services, COAST program covered at lunch and learn session

In an effort to better inform UH faculty and staff members of the public transportation options available to them through the University of Houston’s partnership with METRO, Parking and Transportation Services recently hosted a free “How to Ride” Lunch and Learn session where attendees had the chance to learn about a variety of METRO services and features, as well as how they can receive a discount on their fare by joining COAST, UH’s new alternative transportation incentive program.

Karen Marshall, director of client services for Houston METRO, led the discussion, covering everything from park and ride routes to METRO’s helpful mobile apps; representatives from UH’s Parking and Transportation Services department were also on hand to address any campus-specific concerns.

In addition to hearing an overview of the METRO program, the more than 20 attendees also had the opportunity to receive one-on-one trip planning, as well as sign up for COAST on the spot.

For this event, Parking and Transportation Services specifically invited individuals who live in zip codes that receive local METRO services and thus qualify for a 50 percent discount on their METRO fares; however, the response was so great, that future events are already in the works.
