Leading the Energy Transition

Located in the heart of the Energy Capital of the World, UH is indeed the Energy University. UH Energy leads centers and programs supporting the future of energy. Among these is the Energy Transition Institute, focusing on hydrogen, carbon management, and circular plastics – all critical to the energy sector’s shift toward lowering its carbon footprint.

As the world searches for more sustainable sources of energy, engineering technology students in Professor Venkatesh Balan’s class at the UH College of Technology are turning green algae into biofuels to power the energy transition.

A New Era of Health Care Innovation

UH is setting the standard for health care by creating community-facing programs, developing new technologies, and supporting the well-being of all Houstonians.

Putting the care back into health care

The Household-Centered Care Program at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine pairs interprofessional teams of medical, nursing, and social work students and faculty with families in Houston’s East End and Third Ward to address community health and social service needs.

Changing lives through medical technology

Neuro-engineers at UH have developed a robotic arm controlled by brainwaves to help stroke patients recover the use of a limb. The next-generation rehabilitation device is in clinical trials and will be used for long-term stroke therapy in patients’ homes—most current technologies are limited to labs or clinics.

Igniting the Entrepreneurial Spirit

Ranked #1 by the Princeton Review, UH’s acclaimed Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship continues to inspire rising stars in business. This program immerses its students in experiential learning activities in which they work alongside mentors from Houston’s business sector and award-winning faculty.

Danna Ceron, a graduate of the top-ranked Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the C.T. Bauer College of Business and founder of fashion company CaliDanna, works with female designers in her native Colombia to introduce sustainable fashion to new parts of the world.

Shaping the Future of Hospitality

The drinks aren’t on the house; they’re on the desks (literally). UH’s Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership is home to a state-of-the-art beverage lab, the only facility of its kind in the U.S. The college also provides its students with hands-on learning experiences that can be applied to careers across the hospitality spectrum. While students benefit from the insights of knowledgeable professors, they also learn by observing the inner workings of the college’s home base, a world-class hotel hosting international travelers.

For students pursuing careers in the multibillion-dollar wine, beer, and spirits industry, there is no better place to study beverage management than the Conrad N. Hilton College of Global Hospitality Leadership, home to the nation's premier beverage lab.
