TORC interns and HHP seniors Victoria Rios, Shelley Temple, and Denny Dao presented their research at the annual Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance held in Galveston, TX on Friday, December 5th. Victoria presented data on “Psychological Risk Factors among Food Insecure Hispanic Mothers”. Shelley presented on “Children’s Physical Activity, Body Composition, and Maternal Perceptions and Concerns of Children’s Weight Status”. Denny presented on “Food Stamp Challenge: How Well Do Nutrition Majors Fare on a Food Stamp Diet?”. A job well done by all three students!

Wheelchair Rugby 'Smash Tournament'

Texas Obesity Research Center(TORC) supported the annual Adaptive Athletics Wheelchair Rugby Smash Tournament and Fundraiser this past Saturday.  Some seasoned TORC wheelchair rugby athletes along with several new staff created team “TORC Out” to support this great program within the UH Department of Health and Human Performance. TORC Out took home 1st place, as they defeated some great teams and had fun while supporting a great student organization.

Race for Control: 5k & Fitness Festival

TORC faculty and students participated and gave out important health information related to diabetes in the Race for Control: 5k Fitness Festival on Saturday, August 30.
