Basic Calculations, Enzyme Kinetics

Note:
This homework will not be collected. However, quizzes and exams will assume that you have completed and understand the homework assignment and could answer related questions.

Reading Assignment: Chapter 12 of Biochemistry.
Study Exercises: Chapter 12, p. 348, #1, 3-5, 7, 9
Note: Show all work and remember to incorporate your units in your calculations.
  1. You have a 20% stock solution of SDS. You need to make a dilution to 0.1% for your gel electrophoresis experiment. Calculate and describe how you would make 1.0 L of 0.1% SDS using your stock solution.

  2. Calculate and describe how you would make 20 ml of 10 mg/ml BSA (bovine serum albumen). BSA is a protein that is commonly incorporated into biochemistry experiments. It is sold as a dry powder.

  3. Draw leucine, isoleucine, and proline. What are each of their three-letter code? What are each of their one-letter code? Where are you likely to find these amino acids in a protein?
