Spanish as a Heritage Language

The Graduate Certificate in Spanish as a Heritage Language is designed to provide professionals with the tools to enhance their ability to work with heritage language learners in both academic and non-academic industries. Students who complete this certificate will gain knowledge in several topics including Spanish linguistics, politics, culture, and literature.

Students who are currently pursuing this certificate may also use the 12 credits obtained to be applied towards the M.A. or Ph. D in Spanish degrees. The courses include:

  • SPAN 6389: Methods of Teaching Spanish to Heritage Learners
  • SPAN 6397: U.S. Hispanic Culture and Civilization
  • SPAN 6344: U.S. Hispanic Literature
  • SPAN 6352: Sociolinguistic Aspects of U.S. Spanish
